Magazine Interview

This is the interview I created, which will be featured in my main article.

Cadie Mason, just 7 months after her big break, has already become an international superstar, gaining 7 top ten hits and 3 number ones. Cadie has been considered to be the female version of Justin Bieber and Britain’s answer to Miley Cyrus. She’s formed alliances and collaborated with some of the greatest singers and produces in the industry today, and is also onto her second album. ENTOURAGE were the first magazine to have a one-on-one interview with the singer herself.

Hi there! Well it’s great to finally meet you, seems you’re a really hard person to get hold of!

(Laughs) Yes. My manager prefers me to stay away from the press and paparazzi and that, he says it will be better for my career to begin with. And to be honest I kinda’ like it, it’s makes me more mysterious. Plus everything’s been ‘all systems go lately’ so I’ve actually never had the time to even think about interviews and things.

WOW, seems like you’re really focussed at the minute. So what is it like to be an international ‘teen’ superstar?

Gosh is that what I’m getting labelled these days! (Giggles) Erm you know I don’t really think of myself that way, people call me a musical sensationand an international ‘teen’ superstar,but i still see myslef as a normal teenager, I don’t think it’s really changed me. But the work I get to do is amazing. I’ve always had a passion for writing songs, it was an easy way for me to express myfeelings which I’m sure a lot of people dobut getting to sing them, in a recording studio is great, I love it. And I also love the fact that other people get to hear it. Though the biggest high is the fans, and I knoweveryone says it, but it really is the fans and the support they give that makes it all worth while. But one thing that I hate about fame, is thateven though I have loads of pretty amazing fans, they’re never gunna get thechance to know the real me. That’s why my pulicist is trying to keep my imagenatural, to make sure i don’t appear fake.

Have you always been quite musical, and interested in the arts?

Oh yeah. My older sister and a few of my cousins got into dancing and acting, so they all went to stage schools and things, but it was only ever a hobby. Then when I was old enough, naturally I just followedwhatever they did. But when I was in these stage schools I really liked it, so after primary school I went to a high school that specialised in performing arts and I guess that’s where it all started off. Then my song writing started when I was 12 and I lost my brother, because everyone took it really hard so I found it difficult to talk about. I started writing in a diary, and somehow my words moulded into songs. Then from there I continued writing songs about others things, and ended up with too many too count. (Laughs).

Your life story sounds pretty incredible. I bet it’s weird for you to hear yourself on the radio?

Definitely. It’s really strange. Me and my friends will all be together just like we used to, with the radio or music channel on, messing around and I must admit sometimes dancing all over the place (Laughs). Then one of my songs will come on and it doesn’t even seem like me at first, but then they all go crazy about it (Laughs) and it just feels like a dream, but I do love it.
Ok, so talk me through your first album and the new one that you’re going to release
Well my first album kind of focuses mainly on my childhood. It includes songs like; ‘losing you’ about my older brother, ‘daughter of a rock star’ based on my dad and his band and ‘life is a roller coster’ which was actually inspired by a theme park (Laughs). Then the second album(which is released on February 5th!) will have more recent songs, but this album is a lot more upbeat. It includes songs such as; ‘dance floor’, ‘heart beat’ and ‘girls’. There is a few slower songs on it though, my newly releases song ‘that feeling’ which I wrote after losing my younger brother and cousin, and then songs like ‘I’ll be waiting’ and ‘fly solo’. My songs are all related to my life, so my albums are suppose to tell a story. Each album is meant to be a part of my journey, which is why each album cover has something relating to a jigsaw as each album is a jigsaw piece of my life. Prettyclever idea, I like it. I will admit it’s not one of my own ideas though, I just write the songs (Laughs)

So let’s talk about who you’ve worked with and who you’d like to work with. Did you know that you’ve actually been referred to as the female version of Justin Bieber and Britain’s answer to Miley Cyrus?

Oh, (Laughs). I’d heard the Miley Cyrus part but not the bit about Justin Bieber. Funny you mention that cause I would actually love to work with him and think it would be a good mix. David Guetta seems like a fun person to work with, the songs he produces are all amazing. But at the minute my favourite has to be Rihanna or even Nicki Minaj, I absolutely love them. Even though Beyonce is my favourite artist, I couldn’t see a songbetween me and her working very well unfortunately, but it would be amazing to giveit a try. In my first album, I have a song featuringKesha and one with chipmunk. Then my second album, I did a song with Enrique Iglesias, Leona Lewis and Will.I.Am.

Well I’ll be looking forward to that album! So who was your biggest inspiration?

I don’t really have one artist who inspired me, I mean I did always dream of being just like Beyonce (Laughs). But when I see ordinary people, like Alexandra Burke and JLS make it from television shows like X factor I kind of always thought it was possible for normal people to achieve their dream. Then when Justin Bieber made it big, I really admired the way he got there himself so I really started to strive for it. Well with my dad being in a rock band, I always had it in my genes, but I was inspired by the people close to me and the people that I lost, I felt I needed to make a difference. I guess I owe it all to my older brother, and actually to my whole family and all my friends. Without them, my life wouldn’t have been the way it is, even though I wish somethings were different. But I believe everything happens for a reason, as without everything that happened my songs might never have been written, cause I’m pretty sure it was my songs that got me where I am now.

Ok, well unfortunately were almost out of time, so on a final note, what do you hope to achieve and where do you see yourself in the future?

Hmmm. To be honest I have achieved so much already, but one thing I want is for my songs to to my lyrics, because my lyrics are real. As Iwant to raise awareness about things such as; bullying, violence and underage driving. I’m not a party killer, don’t get me wrong I love having a good time but you can enjoy yourself in life without paying a price. I guess in the future I hope to work with more great people, produce even more incredible music and I’m really looking forward to doing concerts. Maybe a few more number ones, hopefully more albums to complete my jigsaw (Laughs). And I would love to star in a film, so fingers crossed for that!
